Church Hill Collision

About 11:22 am November 19, motorist Marie Athans, 46, of 20 Vining Road was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV westward on Church Hill Road and then stopped at a stop sign at that road’s intersection with Main Street, police report.

Westbound motorist Kimberly Stendahl, 48, of 9 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2003 BMW 3-Series convertible, then struck the Chevrolet from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Stendahl for following too closely.

Pacifica

Motorist Marie Rojo, 56, of 27 Mountain Manor Road was driving a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica SUV on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, about 6:38 pm November 18, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Rojo was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Hook Crash

Motorist Mekael Farhad, 34, of Derby, who was driving a Ford Taurus sedan, was waiting in traffic on westbound Berkshire Road about 3:55 pm November 20, when the unknown driver of a white or silver-colored Honda SUV with New York marker plates was making a right turn from Wasserman Way onto eastbound Berkshire Road, police said.

The turning Honda went over the road’s center line and collided with the Ford, after which the Honda drove off eastward on Berkshire Road, police said.

Farhad was not injured, police said. Police ask anyone with information on the identity of the Honda driver to contact them at 203-270-8888.

Insurance Charge

Police report they served a warrant on the night of November 20, against Michael Wilk, 50, of Brookfield in connection with a two-vehicle accident that occurred September 25 at the intersection of South Main Street and Prospect Drive.

Police said they charged Wilk with failure to have automotive insurance. Police released Wilk on a written promise to appear December 12 in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Arrest

While police were conducting a routine business security check at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street about 4 am November 22, a vehicle pulled into the parking lot there, police report.

There were no businesses open there at the time, so police interviewed the vehicle’s driver, resulting in the driver’s arrest.

Police said they charged the youth with driving under the influence under age 21, possession of alcohol by a minor, and violation of curfew.

Police listed the person charged with the offenses as a “youthful offender,” meaning that they are either age 16 or 17. State law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that they spotted Aaron Lengel, 18, of 32 West Street in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on the night of November 21, and realized that they held a warrant for his arrest.

Police said they charged Lengel with evading responsibility in connection with an early morning October 2 vehicle crash near 75 Taunton Hill Road in which a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck that Lengel was allegedly driving went off the road and collided with some boulders in a resident’s yard. Police charge that Lengel left the scene after the collision.

Police released him on $200 bail for a December 10 court appearance.

Washington Avenue

About 11:45 am November 23 on Washington Avenue near Pearl Street, police said they stopped motorist Andrew Giannettino, 20, of 8 Chestnut Hill Road for driving a vehicle too fast.

After investigating, police charged him with traveling too fast, driving with a suspended license, and with failure to return a suspended license to the state.

After he posted $100 bail, police released Giannettino for a December 3 court appearance.

DUI Incident

About 2 am November 22, police located a one-vehicle accident near 231 Hattertown Road, south of Hattertown Road’s intersection with Castle Meadow Road.

Police said motorist Sheryle Wells, 36, of 3 Cottonwood Trail had been driving southward on Hattertown Road, when the vehicle drove onto the opposite side of the street and struck some guard cabling along the northbound road shoulder. There were no injuries, according to police.

After investigating, police charged Wells with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Wells was released from custody on $100 bail for a December 9 court appearance.

Nissan Crash

Motorist Nicole Koenig, 22, of New Fairfield was driving a 2000 Nissan Sentra westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 4:30 am November 23, when she fell asleep at the wheel, drifted onto the highway median, smashed into some metal-beam guardrailing and then awoke, state police said.

Koenig then turned sharply to the right, but oversteered, went into a spin and then struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said. Koenig was not injured. State police issued her an infraction for a traffic violation.

Ford Ranger

Motorist John B. Schwarzkopf, 50, of Oxford was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck eastward on Interstate 84 at about 4:15 am November 23, when he fell asleep at the wheel, drove off the road to the left, struck a pile of rocks and then landed in a ditch, state police report.

Schwarzkopf was not injured, state police said. Information on possible enforcement was not available.

Rear-Ender

Motorist Elyse Dent, 48, of 57 Philo Curtis Road, who was driving a 2008 Hyundai Accent, stopped at the end of westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 ramp at about 3 pm November 19, state police report.

Motorist David F. Karraker, Jr, 66, of Bethel, who was driving a 1993 Ford Ranger, then struck the Hyundai from behind, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Karraker for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

I-84 Accident

State police report that motorist Crystal Piccirillo, 22, of 11 Dayton Street, who was driving a 1993 Honda Civic, was waiting at the end of westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp about 6:40 am November 17, when the Honda was struck from behind by an older blue sedan with an unknown driver, after which the sedan’s driver left the scene.

Piccirillo was not injured. State police ask anyone with information of the identity of the blue sedan’s driver to contact them at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2200.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on southbound South Main Street, near its intersection with Country Club Road, about 9:20 am November 19.

The driver of an older blue pickup truck, whose identity is unknown, was southbound and then slowed for traffic conditions, police said.

Motorist Andrew Bournos, 38, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan southward, then struck the rear end of a southbound 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Karen Favicchia, 47, of 14 Sleepy Hollow Road, thus pushing the Sienna into the rear end of the blue pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said the driver of the blue pickup left the scene before they arrived to investigate. Police issued Bournos a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Pickup Vs Sedan

Motorist Matthew Yitts, 16, of 8 Prospect Drive, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck southward on South Main Street about 2:17 pm November 21, was attempting to make a left turn into a commercial driveway at 151 South Main Street, as motorist Matthew Lacoste, 45, of Fairfield was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima sedan northward, police report.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Yitts for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Accident

Motorist Jenna Digirolamo, 24, of Glastonbury, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt coupe eastward on Berkshire Road about 2:42 pm November 15, slowed to make a left turn onto Pole Bridge Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist George K. Miller, Jr, 47, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck, then drove into the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said. There were no injuries. Miller received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Dodge Neon

Motorist Thomas Carter, 25, of Monroe was driving a 1998 Dodge Neon eastward on Route 34 (Berkshire Road), near Pole Bridge Road, about 11:15 pm November 18, when a deer ran out onto the street, resulting in a collision, police said. Carter was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Mercedes Vs Pumpkin

Motorist Joe Skrzypczak, 52, of 3 Glemor Drive was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz S-550 sedan northward near 175 Mt Pleasant Road about 6:30 pm November 20, when a pumpkin rolled out onto the road and collided with the Mercedes, damaging the auto’s undercarriage, police report.

Police said a property owner explained to them that some people were moving pumpkins at the time and one of the pumpkins rolled away, entering the path of the approaching Mercedes.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

 

Old Bethel Road

Motorist Michael Lusita, 43, of Bethel was driving a 2006 Nissan Murano SUV westward on Old Bethel Road about 3:24 am November 23, when a deer entered the street, police said. Lusita sought to avoid hitting the deer, but in swerving, he collided with a tree along the left side of the street, police said.

Lusita was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Intersection Collision

About 9:49 pm November 22, motorist Norma Cordova, 81, of Bethel, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu northward on Washington Avenue, as motorist Christopher Camejo, 28, of Southbury was driving a 2005 Lotus Elise coupe southward on Glen Road, police said.

Both motorists then arrived at the intersection of Washington Avenue, Glen Road, Church Hill Road, and Riverside Road.

The Chevrolet turned left onto Church Hill Road, as the Lotus was turning right onto Church Hill Road, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries, police said.

 Police issued Cordova a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Busy Intersection

About 5:25 pm November 18, motorist Elizabeth Begnoche, 52, of Derby, who was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra eastward on Wasserman Way, stopped at its intersection with Route 34, police said.

Motorist Shawn Ewald, 34, of Norwalk, who was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion sedan, then stopped behind the Hyundai, police said.

The Ford then struck the rear end of the Hyundai, according to police. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Ewald for following too closely.

Jeep Vs Suzuki

Motorist Laureen Cervone, 51, of North Scituate, R.I., was driving a 2006 Suzuki sedan northward near 150 South Main Street about 6:20 pm November 18 and then stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Northbound motorist Matthew Myslewski, 21, of 9 Putnam Drive, who was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, then struck the Suzuki from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Myslewski received a verbal warning for following too closely, police report.

 

Audi Off Road

Motorist Wederson Costa, 24, of Kirkland, Wash., was driving a 1996 Audi A-4 sedan eastward on Berkshire Road about 6 am on November 8, when while rounding a curve to the left near Old Mill Road, he lost control of the auto, went onto the right road shoulder, climbed an embankment and then became stuck atop a rock outcropping, police said.

Costa was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Two MV Charges

Police report that about 11 pm November 21, they stopped motorist David A. Fletcher, 46, of 39 Deep Brook Road near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road because Fletcher was not wearing a seatbelt.

After investigating, police charged Fletcher with failure to wear a seatbelt and with driving with a suspended license.

Police released Fletcher on a written promise to appear in court on December 2.

Multiple Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Peggy Keegan, 41, of Jamaica Plain, Mass., about 10:30 pm November 19 for crossing over the road’s centerline near 153 Sugar Street.

After investigating, police said they learned that Keegan was wanted by police on two warrants for past motor vehicle violations elsewhere.

Police said they charged Keegan with failure to drive to the right for the November 19 incident.

The charges listed in the warrants against Keegan include second-degree failure to appear in court, reckless driving, driving without automotive insurance, speeding, and driving while under suspension, police said.

Police said they released Keegan on $2,000 bail for a December 4 appearance in Rockville Superior Court.

SUV Vs SUV

Police report an accident involving two SUVs near 166 Mt Pleasant Road about 5:05 pm November 24.

Motorist Mary Giunti, 61, of Oxford, who was driving a 2003 Honda CRV SUV eastward, stopped for an object that was lying on the road, after which the Honda was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Margaret Cragin, 52, of 4 Lorraine Drive, who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cragin an infraction for following too closely.

Crosswalk Sign

While driving a marked Ford Crown Victoria police patrol car northward on Main Street in front of Edmond Town Hall about 6:14 am November 15, police Officer Matthew Wood was looking at two parked vehicles there, when the left exterior rear-view mirror on the police car struck a portable crosswalk sign positioned in the center of Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. The impact caused minor damage to the mirror, police said. Police took no enforcement.

Sedan Off Road

About 3:13 pm November 24, motorist Paul G. Barnas, Jr, 20, of Clinton was driving a 2001 Nissan sedan northward on Taunton Hill Road, after which the auto went off the road and struck a stone wall at Taunton Hill Road’s intersection with Plumtrees Road, police said. There were no injuries.

Barnas told police that he had stopped at the stop sign on Taunton Hill Road and then attempted to turn left onto Plumtrees Road, but a cat ran in front of the sedan, so he swerved to avoid it, but in doing so he went off the road, police said.

Police said their investigation of skid marks at the scene indicated that Barnas did not stop at the stop sign. Police issued Barnas an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign and for traveling too fast for conditions.

Berkshire Road

About 8:44 am November 25 near 281 Berkshire Road, motorist Beatrice Kumah, 45, of Derby was driving a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder westward, when she saw an eastbound school bus slowing with its flashing yellow lights on, so Kumah slowed the Nissan, police said.

Westbound motorist Jennifer Conlon, 36, of New Haven, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord sedan, then struck the rear end of the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Conlon an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police gave Kumah an infraction for driving without a license.

Queen Street

About 11:48 am November 25, motorist Paula Stephan, 81, of Elizabeth Circle was driving a 2008 Audi sedan southward on Queen Street, police said.

At that time, Claudio Bachista, 35, of Asheboro, N.C., was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi delivery truck southward on Queen Street, according to police.

Simultaneously, both drivers attempted to make a right turn into the northern entrance of Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street and they collided with one another, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Stephan a written warning for making an improper turn.
