Holiday Book Sale A Bargain

By Nancy K. Crevier

The Friends of the C.H. Booth Library invite the public to the annual Holiday Books and Gifts Sale in the lower level of the library, December 6 and 7. Due to the popularity of the event in past years, this year’s sale will take place over two days, Saturday, from 9:30 am to 5 pm, and Sunday, from 11 am to 5 pm.

Children’s books, history books, and cook books are particularly plentiful, said Friends volunteers Toni Earnshaw and Pat Marshall, but all categories of books are well represented.

A huge selection of very gently used or brand new books, priced at one-quarter to one-third what they would be discounted at in a book store, will be available. Paperback books will be sold for $1 each. No book lovers to buy for? That is not a problem.

Grandma’s Gift Boutique will also be featured both days, showcasing many nonbook related items. A brand-new Dora the Explorer Discovery Set and a Hannah Montana singing doll are among the children’s items in Grandmas Gift Boutique this year. Other gift items include porcelain Limoges figurines, a variety of purses, including several by Vera Bradley, and antique candlesticks. The broad selection of items and prices means that there is something for everyone, said Ms Earnshaw, and plenty of opportunity to pick up the perfect stocking stuffer.

The Friends are once again taking orders for prints of the 1854 map of Newtown on December 6 and 7, as well. The 2-by-3-foot reprints on archival quality, acid-free paper in sepia tones show the map surrounded by drawings of local historical homes and buildings of interest. The cost of the unframed print is $45, and will be available for pick-up in time for Christmas.

“The prices are excellent and everything is gift quality,” emphasized Ms Marshall. “This sale is a great value, especially at a time when people may be watching their pennies.”
