We’re All In This Together

To the Editor:

I would like to comment on the letter sent to The Bee by Ernest Vitarbo last week [“The Majority’s Mistake”]. Mr Vitarbo cited a number of reasons why he is unhappy that Barack Obama was elected as our new President.

I wonder if Mr Vitarbo is an athlete, or perhaps had exposure to athletics during his time in school.  One of the key lessons in athletics is the importance of good sportsmanship. Even after the most dire competitive struggles, we learned to “leave it on the field” and to shake the hand of our opponent, whether you won or lost.

I recommend that Mr Vitarbo try to do this with the election, and move beyond the hatred, bitterness, and propaganda (from both sides) that he expressed in his letter. This was a hard-fought campaign, and Obama prevailed with large amounts of support in every state of the Union.

We now need to give President-elect Obama a chance to succeed. After all, we’re all in this together.
