Dovie Thomason, a pure blooded Native American professional storyteller, came to Middle Gate School on October 27 to give a speech and tell traditional Native American stories.
Dovie travels around the country visiting schools and towns teaching about her culture. She taught us that Native Americans use stories as lessons, and some of the stories take years to write. In her culture when a child did something wrong they would not get punished but would have to listen to a story to teach them what they did.
We enjoyed Dovie Thomasonâs stories and hope she will come back to Middle Gate.
