*Alâs Trail and Beyond: Newtown artist Pat Barkman has an exhibition of her recent watercolors on the main floor of the library until New Yearâs Eve.
The main thrust of Mrs Barkmanâs collection are her works depicting scenes along Alâs Trial, the ten-mile hiking trail in Newtown. The exhibition also includes recent watercolors of other natural scenes.
Childrenâs Programs
*Childrenâs Holiday Craft Workshop: Marie Walker will conduct a Holiday craft workshop on Saturday, December 10, from 1 to 2 pm for children ages 6 and up.
A $3 material fee is due upon registration. Sign up in the childrenâs department.
*Holiday Concert: The Connecticut Opera will perform âDeck the Halls,â songs of the season, on Saturday, December 10, at 3 pm.
This program of seasonal favorites, traditional carols and Hanukkah songs is sure to delight children and adults of all ages. Seating will be available on a first come, first served basis.
*Gingerbread House Workshop: Our popular gingerbread house workshop will take place on Saturday, December 17, from 3 to 4 pm, for children ages 4-10.
Each child will make their own creation with graham crackers, royal icing and a variety of festive candies.
Registration is required. A $3 material fee will help defray expenses.
For Young Adults
*Letâs talk about Hush by Jacqueline Woodson. Our next Young Adult book discussion will be on Wednesday, December 14, from 4 to 5 pm, in The Story Room.
When her father witnesses a murder, Toswiah Green and her family must go into the witness protection program. It is hard enough as a teen to figure out who you are without being told to become someone else!
These monthly book discussions for readers in grades 5-9 are co-sponsored by Reed Intermediate School. Books are available at both libraries.

*Creative Writing Workshop: âCreative Writing: Fictionâ will be offered this winter, led by teacher and author Wally Wood. It will meet from 6 to 8 pm on five consecutive Monday evenings, January 9-February 13 (no class on January 16).
There is a limit of ten students in grades 6 and up. There is no fee.
Participants are expected to attend all five sessions, and preference is given to Newtown residents.

*Special Computer Class: On Saturday, December 10, from 9 am until noon, Dan Tannenbaum will conduct a computer class on some important topics including digital photography, backing up files, and safe online shopping.
