Newtown Jr Pee Wee Cheerleaders Perform In Providence

With the close of their 2000 season, Newtownâs Pop Warner Jr Pee Wee Cheerleaders reflect on the goals met and those yet to be realized. Placing first in local competition and third in the state these young cheerleaders were eager to perform at the regional level in Providence last month.
The historic Biltmore, with its spacious rooms, provided lodging, and perhaps the most elegant setting for pre-performance practices for these young athletes and their families.
The stormy weather of the day did not dampen the spirits of these young competitors, or their vocal supporters. Although not placing for trophy status, they did turn in what appeared to be a flawless performance.
The Junior Pee Wee squad won first place at the 10th annual Candlewood Valley Cheerleading Competition in mid-October. The Newtown squad competed against other squads from Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Monroe, Ridgefield, New Milford, Aspetuck, New Fairfield, and Pomperaug.
During the state competition in mid-November at Wilby High School in Waterbury, the Junior Pee Wee squad brought home a third place finish that allowed them to compete in Providence, Rhode Island recently.
During the regional competition, the squad was up against other teams from Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachuetts, and Rhode Island.
This yearâs season was drawn to a close at the Annual Pop Warner Awards Dinner on December 3. Now with trophies and awards bestowed, uniforms turned in, and great memories tucked in their hearts, they begin to plan for 2001.Â
Coaches and members of the Jr Pee Wees included Terri Bell, head coach, and Donna Norling and Rose DeSimone, assistant coaches; cheerleaders Lauren Hamilton, Nikia McFadden, Jessica Orama, Desiree Rosato, Alexa Faeth, Jessica Shepard, Amanda Norling, Katie Mantz, Sharron Dunleavy, Jamie Marcucilli, Jenna Moser, Gina Gotliboski, Christina Bell, Jacqueline Kerin, Samantha Shepard, Laure Boff, Nichole Beatty, Katelyn Vrabell, Courtney Sullivan, Allyson Ertl, Lauren Nute, Amanda Sharpe, Kaitlyn Risi, Candice Woods, Jessica Macey, Alyssa DeSimone, Lauren Villodas, Kelly Burch, Courtney Gesualdi, Samantha Ross, Kaila Harrington, Nicole Butler; and mascots Margaret Sullivan, Lauren Faeth, Kaitlyn Miner, and Kristen Fetchick.
