Hiram Lodge #18 Makes Donation To Toys For Tots
On December 9, the members of Hiram Lodge #18 in Sandy Hook completed their Toys for Tots campaign and delivered the toys to members of Newtown Police Department.
The toys were then transported to St Rose of Lima Church, where members of the NW Fairfield County CT Campaign of Marine Veterans of Fairfield County, Inc added them to other toys that have been collected this year.
The annual drive, which began in 1947, provides joy and hope to disadvantaged children through the gift of a new toy, book, or game.
Last year, the NW Fairfield County CT Campaign distributed 21,268 toys to 9,130 children who might not otherwise have gotten any Christmas gifts.
According to Philip J. Cruz, Newtown police commissioner and Hiram Lodge member, 40 members of the Lodge contributed approximately $2,000 to support this year’s toy drive.
The US Marine Corps Toys For Tots collection continues through December 16; public drop-off locations can be found in The Newtown Bee’s online calendar.
