NYCAAP Holds Positive Light Program And Photo Exhibit

On World AIDS Day, December 1, students in Newtown Youth Services’ AIDS education group, NYCAAP (Newtown Youth Creating AIDS Awareness for Peers) held a candlelight program for the community.

The focus of the program was to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and to offer a memorial for those who have died or lost someone to AIDS. The theme was “Positive Light,” the title of an exhibit of photographs taken by HIV-positive youths. NYCAAP brought the display to Newtown High School for the week of World AIDS Day and also brought the display to the candlelight program so that the community could view it.

Along with the Positive Light photos was an exhibit of photographs taken by NYCAAP member Dave Clancy, documenting NYCAAP members’ work this year. The Positive Light exhibit also is being shared by several area high schools, including Bethel High, Wooster School, and Danbury High School.
