Parking Lot Collision

Newtown Police report Alina Buszynski, 17, of Southbury, operating a 2015 Acura RDX, was parked in a spot in a lot on Church Hill Road at 4:34 pm November 20. While backing out, her vehicle struck a parked and unoccupied 2015 Lexus RX owned by Eric Santaniello of Newtown. Buszynski then left the scene and her vehicle was identified through security video and license plate reader.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Due to the minor damage, Budzynski was not charged with evasion of responsibility.

Assault On Officer Charge

Newtown Police report that at approximately 11:36 am November 22, Newtown Police responded to a residence on Hanover Road. After a brief investigation, Daniel Morris, 40, of Walkill, N.Y., was arrested and charged with interfering with an officer/resisting arrest, assault on a public safety officer, and disorderly conduct. He was released on a $75,000 bond with a court date of November 24 in Danbury Superior Court.

Unknown Vehicle

Newtown Police report that Samantha Joyal-Pena, 17, of Brookfield, operating a 2007 Lexus IS250, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 7:04 pm November 25. An unknown vehicle traveling behind Joyal-Pena passed her vehicle on the right in a no passing zone and struck Joyal-Pena’s vehicle before leaving the scene.

No injuries were reported. Joyal-Pena’s vehicle was not towed.

Struck By Evading Vehicle

Newtown Police report Juliette Greenspan, 56, of Hyde Park, N.Y., operating a 2024 Ford Mustang, was at the intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive at 8:21 pm November 27. An unknown vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign on Elm Drive and collided with Greenspan’s vehicle before leaving the scene. Greenspan said she was unable to describe the vehicle or where it went due to the state of shock she was in from the collision. A gray colored piece of what the officer thought was part of a front bumper was found on scene. The officer is waiting for possible camera footage from nearby businesses.

Greenspan was not injured. Her vehicle was not towed.

Evading Driver Found

Newtown Police report Kathrun Hawksley, 35, of Wilmington, Del., stopped her vehicle and exited from it in a driveway on Washbrook Road at 4:52 pm November 29. After exiting the vehicle, it began to roll and collided with the garage door of the residence on the property. Hawksley then entered the vehicle and drove away, evading responsibility for the incident. The vehicle and operator were later identified.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Jacob Wallenta, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2013 Subaru BRZ, was traveling southbound on Berkshire Road at 7:59 pm December 1. He was traveling behind a 2024 Jeep Wrangler operated by Eliana Musen, 17, of Newtown in regular traffic for Newtown High School arrival. Musen stopped in traffic, and Wallenta stopped behind. Wallenta told police that while stopped, he attempted to reach into his backseat to retrieve his school bag, and the vehicle accelerated forward, striking the back of Musen’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Wallenta was issued an infraction for following too close.

Rear Ended on Currituck

Newtown Police report Leidy Guzman-Rodriguez, 24, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on Currituck Road at 10:03 am December 2. She was traveling behind a 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 operated by Mary Anne Robinson, 55, of Brookfield. Robinson stopped for a vehicle making a left turn and Guzman-Rodriguez did not stop in time, rear-ending Robinson’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Guzman-Rodriguez was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Information Sought On Evading Driver

Newtown Police report that at 1 pm December 2, an unknown vehicle collided with a mailbox on Bridle Path Trail. The collision caused damage to the post and mailbox.

Stop Sign Collision

Newtown Police report Maxwell Roberts, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2002 Subaru Impreza, was stopped at the stop sign on Cedar Hill Road at South Main Street, waiting to make a left turn, at 12:44 pm December 3. John Monaghan, 59, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2019 Volkswagen Golf, was traveling southbound on South Main Street, approaching Cedar Hill Road. Roberts turned onto South Main Street in front of Monaghan and his vehicle was struck by Monaghan’s vehicle.

Both Monaghan and a passenger in Monaghan’s vehicle were treated on scene by EMTs before being transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.

Roberts was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Evading Driver Found

Newtown Police report John Pokladowski, 62, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Mazda Tribute, was traveling northbound on Glen Road at 3:47 pm December 3. Pokladowski’s vehicle crossed the double yellow lines and went into a parking lot on Glen Road, where it collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Camry owned by Segundo Illescas of Danbury, then struck a utility pole, then continued forward and struck another unoccupied parked vehicle, a 2021 Lexus RX 350 owned by Elisha Alkazin of Sandy Hook.

Pokladowski then exited the parking lot and continued to drive northbound on Glen Road, evading responsibility for the incident. He was later identified and located.

Pokladowski was transported to Danbury Hospital. No vehicles were towed.

Pokladowski was charged with evading responsibility for a motor vehicle accident, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Hit Black Ice, Struck Tree

Newtown Police report Ethan Kontarovich, 20, of Fairfield, operating a 2025 Subaru BRZ, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 7:43 am December 4. The vehicle ran over a patch of black ice, crossed the dividing line and the southbound lane, left the roadway, and struck a large tree, before re-entering the roadway and coming to a stop in the southbound lane.

Kontarovich was transported to Danbury Hospital with possible injuries. The vehicle was towed.

Kontarovich was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Struck By Tree

Newtown Police report Jameson Pears, 22, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 Audi A4, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street at 5:34 pm December 4. A tree fell from the northbound side of the road and struck Pears’ vehicle.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action.

Delivery Van Hits Car

Newtown Police report Foad Khadroune, 22, of West Haven, operating a 2020 Ford Transit T-350 delivery van, was backing up in a driveway on Russett Road at 5:27 pm December 5. Khadroune backed into a Mercedes-Benz GLE.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Parking Lot Incident

Newtown Police report Raquel Tavares, 35, of Naugatuck, operating a 2019 Toyota Highlander, was backing out of a parking spot in a lot on Glen Road at 10:24 pm December 5. Tavares backed into a parked, unoccupied 2017 Jeep Wrangler owned by Heather Saunders of Sandy Hook.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action since the incident occurred on private property.

Gas Station Collision

Newtown Police report Nathaniel Marchese, 22, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder, was entering a gas station parking lot on Church Hill Road at 2:06 pm December 6. A 2021 Ford Bronco owned by John McCasland of Naugatuck was parked at one of the pumps. While entering the gas pump area, Marchese struck McCasland’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
