Family Counseling Center Offers Parent Education Program

The Family Counseling Center is pleased to be able to continue to provide The Parent Education Program to divorcing couples involved with child custody issues under Public Act 93-319.

The program is meant to provide an educational experience for the parents to help ensure that the children involved will have as positive a transition as possible. To accomplish this the center uses a proven, effective child focused curriculum called “Children First.”

The curriculum will cover: how children of different ages deal with separation and divorce; negotiation and managing conflict; visitation and new family arrangements; and listening to children and helping them adjust.

Classes are taught by trained facilitators at the center in either one, six-hour session or two, three-hour sessions during evening or weekend hours.

The Family Counseling Center is a state licensed and accredited nonprofit mental health agency offering counseling for families and individuals in the greater Danbury and Southbury area.

For more information on when classes are held and or additional information call 426-8103, extension 100, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm to register.
