A Light For All Seasons

To the Editor:

With the arrival of the holiday season comes the joy of driving around our town and admiring all of the festive lights that have been put out in celebration of this time of year.  Businesses and homeowners alike have adorned their structures and homes, trees and bushes, even their windows with holiday lights.  Indeed, the entire town gets into the act with the lighting of the tree in Ram Pasture and the lining of our streets with luminaria.  The various lights sparkle white or colored, flash or chase, glow soft like candles or hang like icicles.  My family loves these lights and we wait in anticipation each year for their arrival.

This season I am inspired by all these joyous lights to write my thoughts to you concerning the one light I feel our town lacks.  The one light whose arrival may bring some joy in its own manner to our town throughout the entire year.  A light which would provide our children and young drivers with a needed measure of safety.  A light which would relieve stress and frustration for each of us in navigating around our town.

A light at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street is long overdue and desperately needed.  Our town has grown dramatically over the years and with this growth this intersection has become increasingly dangerous and stressful for no justifiable reason.  Such a light need not detract from the majesty of our flagpole, indeed it could end its role as the marker of unnecessary accidents as clearly evidenced by the bands of car paint that adorn its base.  Taking a cue from our neighbors in Massachusetts, such a light could be located on each right hand side of the road, rather than hanging obtrusively in the center of the intersection.

My Christmas wish is that out town will erect a light of its own in the new year, one whose light will provide safety for all of us through the years to come, a light at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Main Street.

Very Truly yours,

Paul W. Leuzzi
