Highway Manners

Get Sideswiped

To The Editor:

Can someone please explain to me why in Newtown only, I have to drive in such a defensive manner on any road, whether it’s day or night?

I’ve never experienced such reckless and inconsiderate drivers as in Newtown.

I regularly drive to Danbury, Bethel and Brookfield without having any problems.

The problem is that I am practically being driven off the roads by people who are driving either in the middle of the road or driving on the center line.

It more often happens around blind corners and hills.

Then there are the others who tailgate, day or night, driving in the middle of the road intending to intimidate you into pulling over or driving faster.

How about using those turn signals which they made for a good reason?

What about using headlights when it’s raining, snowing or foggy? State law is that when the wipers come on so do the headlights! The reason is to make yourself visible to other drivers. It’s especially important with all of the many back roads we have in Newtown.

I’m glad that the police department is cracking down on people who violate the speed limit, but what is being done about the lunatics out on the back roads putting our lives in danger on a regular basis?

These problems are equally shared by many of my neighbors and friends who live in Newtown.

It’s getting out of hand and needs to be addressed immediately, as a very serious problem. And it’s escalating due to increased population.

Yes – I am in a hurry too, but not enough to kill someone or myself!

Yes – there are other drivers who share the road too! People need to think of others on the road.

I’m tired of the obstacle course!

Nicer in Newtown?!
