Sandy Hook Students

Enjoy A Mexican Fiesta

Despite Monday’s cold temperatures, Sandy Hook fourth-graders still went south of the border for their annual Mexican fiesta held at the Sandy Hook fire station.

This is the traditional activity when Sandy Hook students invite residents from Ashlar of Newtown to join them in celebrating traditional Mexican foods and performances.

All who attended enjoyed a luncheon punctuated with traditional Mexican favorites like enchiladas and tacos, while members of a Newtown middle school dance group performed Mexican dances. Students had the opportunity to learn the Spanish alphabet.

This visit was one of a series of monthly visits between Ashlar and Sandy Hook, as part of an inter-generational program.

Ashlar residents have also participated in programs in Sandy Hook’s classrooms.
