Time To Honor Our Hometown Hero
Time To Honor Our Hometown Hero
To the Editor:
Despite Newtownâs sustained dominance on all fields of play, rarely are we accorded the opportunity to watch and celebrate one of our own on the national stage. This past weekend Marcus Tracy and his Wake Forest teammates attained the highest honor in collegiate sport as they beat the Ohio State Buckeyes for the national championship of college soccer. Marcus enabled Wake Forest to perform in the finals with two goals in Fridayâs semifinals, and then went on to score the tying goal and set up the game-winning goal in Sundayâs final match to take the national crown.
In an era of pampered, overpaid, drug-tarnished professionals, Marcus and the Demon Deacons exemplify the highest level of athletic achievement and sportsmanship. As a graduate of Newtown High School, Marcus continues to excel as a student, an athlete, and as a citizen.
Today, Marcus and his mates are the national champions of college soccer.
I hope our community will see fit to celebrate Marcusâ achievements and bestow upon him all the accolades due a national champion and a fine citizen.
For my part, I would like to suggest that Blue & Gold Stadium, the field where Marcus sharpened his skills, be renamed to honor a true hometown hero.
