The Rules Of Life

According To Our Dogs:

Don’t wait for special occasions to express affection.

It’s what’s inside that counts… especially if it’s a big Milkbone box.

Kisses and smiles are more productive than growls and snarls

Eat your own food, but learn to share the goodies.

Smile at a stranger once a day.

Quiet upon the terraces,

The garden chairs repose;

In fall they wore their sooty dress,

Now the lees of snows.

How like the furnishings of youth,

In backyards of the mind:

Residuals of summer’s truth

And seasons left behind.

Our millennium wish is that our daughter Katherine will always have the love and support that has been given to her by Mrs Vetrano, Mrs Buffa & Mrs Brown, as well as the whole staff at Sandy Hook School. All children are special and our community shines brighter because of them.

Maureen & John Will

To my wife Leslie, although I seldom say it I do want to thank you for all you do for me. We have much to be thankful for, but for me the most important is the time I have spent with you.

A new century begins

How important that I, we, town, group or state

Best Wishes for the New Year.

Dear Newtown: Every year the children at Sandy Hook elementary school raise money to try to save a small piece of the rain forest. It seems the wild places, diverse species and such, are necessary for our survival, or so the children are taught. Maybe the kids should start to raise money to save the last wild places and diverse species of Newtown. While the bulldozers destroy the homes of deer, fox, wild turkey, hawks, raccoons and others, our natural resources are not the only ones disappearing. Sandy Hook elementary is officially overcrowded and will lose a resource room next year. Will it be music, art or computer studies that suffers?  Let’s have a moratorium on building in Newtown. So we can get our priorities in order.

Sincerely,

Richard Knickerbocker

May the spirit of Christmas past and present comfort and guide you through this last year of the millennium and prepare you for the journey into the next. And when your flock is safely in shelter may you hear the shepherd’s benediction, “Well done,  that’ll do!”

Peace on Earth – Please!

Paul & Marilyn Alexander

Let us hope the various peoples and religions of this world will learn to live at peace with themselves and each other and use food and knowledge to help each other rather than to do harm.

William H. Biesel

“The man who has become a thinking being, feels a compulsion to give to every will-to-live the same reverence for life that he gives to his own. He accepts as being good: to preserve life, to raise to its highest value life which is capable of developments; and as being evil: to destroy life, to injure life, to repress life which is capable of development.” –Dr. Albert Schweitzer, “Out of my Life and Thought,” 1933

A Poem For The Millennium

To the Editor:

I think the following poem is appropriate at this time of year when we are thanking God for our bounty and especially for our children for they are the most precious gifts that He has bestowed on us, each one another flower in our garden. We ask Him to help us as parents, as teachers, and as whomever else our children may come in contact with in life, to help build strong yet kind and gentle individuals. The word “son” can also apply to daughters.

Build Me a Son

Build me a son who will realize that

the true joy of life is the journey.

Build me a son who will not regret

yesterday with its pains and sorrows or

fear tomorrow with its unknowns and

anxieties but relish the moment.

Build me a son who will climb more

mountains, swim more rivers, watch

more sunsets, laugh more, cry less.

Build me a son who will stay true to

his beliefs even when others ridicule him for them.

Build me a son who will find inner

peace, never fail to see the good in people,

and know that every day is a learning experience.

Build me a son who will not be embarrassed

to tell someone he loves them… especially

himself, who will utter the words

“I’m sorry” especially when they need to be said.

Build me a son who will never lose touch

with good friends, be kind to his fellow

man and watch out for family and friends.

Build me a son who will not fear to dream,

who will cherish life because life is meant

to be lived not taken, life is beautiful.

And when this has been accomplished –

then and only then will I be able to sit back, smile and say

“I have not lived in vain.”

Carol R. Giannettino

Sedukah! It eminates from ones heart. Thanks to people such as Elwood “Pop” Scholl, Bob Andrews, Dave Giantz and Fred Frankel I discovered it’s true meaning in Newtown.

Happy & Healthy Millennium to all!
