John T. âJackâ Gill, Sr, 86, of the Sandy Hook section of Newtown, died December 21, in Masonicare at Newtown. Mr Gill was the husband of Louise (Swan) Gill. He was born in Bridgeport, March 28, 1923, a son of Martin F. and Winifred (Shannon) Gill.
Mr Gill was a photo engraver for Swan Engraving before his retirement. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II. A resident of Newtown for 55 years, he was a Lifetime Member of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. He was the Fire Commissioner from Sandy Hook on the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners, and was chairman of the Board for many years. Mr Gill was a Little League Coach in his earlier years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Jay T. Gill and his wife, Rene, and John T. Gill, Jr and his wife, Sandy, all of Sandy Hook; a daughter Judy Mastrianno and her husband, Henry, of Hallowell, Maine; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was scheduled for Wednesday, December 23, at 7:30 pm, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Calling hours will be 5 to 7:30 pm, Wednesday, before the funeral service. Interment in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport, will be private.
