Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company hosted its annual tree lighting on Sunday, December 14, welcoming all ages to its firehouse on Hawleyville Road just a few hours after the first snowfall of the season.

Local dancers entertained while those gathering waited for the countdown that lit the tree near the firehouse. Snacks including cookies, hot cocoa, and slices of pizza were enjoyed.

New this year was the addition of student musicians from Newtown High School, who performed carols during the special event.

Families were invited to take photos with Santa — who had arrived in the fire company’s recently refurbished 1948 Mack — with children encouraged to share their holiday wishes.

Hawleyville’s was the third and final tree lighting of the local season. Trees in Sandy Hook Center were lit for the first time this year on December 6, and the trees at Ram Pasture were celebrated on December 12.
