Masonicare Seeks Hospice Volunteers

Masonicare’s Hospice and Palliative Care of Connecticut affiliate is recruiting volunteers for its certified Hospice Volunteer Training Program to serve patients and their families in the greater Waterbury and Danbury areas.

The program is being coordinated through the Waterbury and Brookfield service offices and reaches families in those communities as well as in Southbury, Woodbury, Danbury, Newtown, Bethel, Monroe, New Fairfield, New Milford, Bridgewater, Roxbury, Sherman, Torrington, Litchfield and Colebrook.

The hospice volunteer, as a member of the hospice care team, assists in meeting the needs of terminally ill patients and their families by providing companionship, support and respite care. Volunteers participate in a 30-hour training program, as well as in bi-monthly in-service programs. Upon completion of the training program, participants will visit patients who may be in their own homes, long-term care facilities, or hospitals. A professional healthcare background is not required.

If you are one of the special, caring people who would like to make a difference in someone’s life, call Deborah Richards, director of volunteer services, at 888/633-6664 for further information. The Training Program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 to 4 pm, beginning January 18, at Ashlar of Newtown, Toddy Hill Road, Newtown.
