Find Inner Calm And Clarity With Yoga
SEYMOUR â A six-week course, âThe Foundations of Mindfulness: The Inner Art of Meditation,â will be offered on Thursday evenings beginning January 6. The class will meet at Great Hill United Methodist Church, 225 Great Hill Road (Route 188 at 334) from 7:30 to 9 pm, through February 10.
The course teaches âmindfulnessâ meditation, a simple and direct practice that involves tuning into the breath and moment-to-moment observation of the mind-body process. Mindfulness training has been used effectively in programs at UMass Medical Center and Harvard University as an approach to stress management and complementary treatment for a wide range of common ailments, diseases, and chronic pain.
Students will learn how to use the principles of mindfulness to create a foundation of awareness in all areas of their lives through sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful movement and other meditation techniques. Mindfulness meditation helps to cultivate an inner calm and focused awareness, freedom from worry and tension, a deeper sense of connection, greater clarity and improved health and well-being.
There is a fee and pre-regis  tration is required. The instructor, Sue Wall, holds a masterâs in public health from Yale School of Medicine, is a certified yoga instructor, and has 20 years experience in health services consultation.
