Ambulance Corps Hits 1,500 Calls

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to its 1,500th call this year at 6:07 am Thursday. This year’s response total shatters all past records. The call went out for an unknown medical problem on Dock Drive.

Last year, Newtown’s ambulance crews responded to 1,223 calls.

At press time (Thursday), Newtown’s five fire companies had responded to a record 1,182 calls in 1999, a 16 percent increase over last year’s total of 1,020.
