Snapshot: Allan Corbeil
Family: My wife Anita; our two sons, Jeffrey and Michael, and their wives; and eight grandchildren.
How did you meet your wife? At UConn, in psychology class. I actually knew her sister first.
Do you have any nicknames? George.
How long have you lived in Newtown? 42 years.
Are you a member of any clubs, organizations, and/or communities of faith? St Rose Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
Career: I stopped working just last month. I was with a small company called TSC for 42 years, and served as manager there for the past 26 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like doing projects around the house — carpentry and fixing things. I have a telescope, so I do a little astronomy. I enjoy taking photographs of my grandkids — I have a lot of those (laughs).
What was the most recent book you read? I’m almost finished with The Frontiersman by William Johnstone. It’s terrific. I’ve also just started reading Denied Access, by my favorite author, Vince Flynn. It’s in his Mitch Rapp series. He has actually died, so a couple of authors have picked up the series. The current author is Don Bentley.
If you could spent the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My mother. She died young, at 60. I was the oldest of ten children, and she made a lot of sacrifices. I’d like to spend a day with her.
Favorite food? Pie. Pecan, specifically. My wife makes a very good pecan pie.
Who would you like to be stuck in an elevator with? Warren Buffett. It would be interesting to meet him.
Favorite music genre? I like classical music. I like listening to WMNR, it’s calming. Also anything 60s or 70s I also enjoy.
What was the most recent concert you went to? The Marshall Tucker Band. They were at the casino and it was terrific. I don’t know if they have any of their original members still playing but it was a really good show.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Hawaii. I’ve been to Hawaii a few times. I’d like to get to Greece. That’s on my bucket list. We also like cruises. We’ve been on several, and we’re going on two this winter.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? I used to like going to the movies at Edmond Town Hall. It’s a different set-up there now, but I really used to enjoy that.
Do you have a personal credo? Be prepared. Don’t panic.
