The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present a demonstration on painting a landscape using oils by Charles A. Ray during the next SCAN meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, March 14, at 7:30 pm. The public is welcome to attend the program, which will take place in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).
Charles Ray had been the director at Silvermine School of the Arts in New Canaan since 1993 until his recent retirement. He is a Silvermine Guild of Artists member and has been teaching drawing and painting at Silvermine School for over 13 years.
After graduating from Hartford Art School, Mr Ray studied at Yale School of Art. He was the cultural affairs coordinator for Commission on the Arts in Bridgeport under the National Endowment for the Arts.
Until just recently, all of Mr Rayâs work was created in the studio and were primarily figurative or still life paintings. Mr Ray is now focusing on images of himself, found in nature. His landscapes are painted on site, mostly in the Northeast including Maine, Mass., Conn. and NY.
Mr Ray, an accomplished painter of over 35 years, has had numerous one-person, group and museum shows throughout Connecticut, New York.
