Occupation: Iâm a self-taught, freelance artist. I do murals, mostly. Most recently, I did the mural on the Botsford Fire Department building, and the custom hood on one of their fire trucks. For those jobs, I used airbrush and brush work. I also did the mural on the Newtown Dog Pound. My dream job would be as an illustrator or an animation artist. People can request to see my work at lambert1199@yahoo.com.
Family: My parents are the Rev Robert and Anita Harris, of Bridgeport. I have three sisters, Rochelle, who is my twin sister; Rashona, and Raisha.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Iâve been here for about 22 years. I live in Sandy Hook.
What do you like to do in your free time? All of my hobbies revolve around the arts. Iâm into music, and Iâve played all kinds of percussion. Iâm into helping in the community wherever I can. Iâm a certified nursesâ aide, and have had the privilege of caring for local residents. I was especially happy to care for the late Sam Nezvesky. I also sketch profoundly, even when I am riding in a car.
Do you have a favorite musician? I would probably say one of my favorite artists would be Stevie Wonder. His âRibbons in the Skyâ is my favorite song.
Do you have a favorite vacation destination? My favorite is Cape Cod. I went there recently with friends. We went to Provincetown. I loved it! It definitely made an impression. The beaches were amazing. I like to see natural landscapes and natural beauty.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Itâs a town full of opportunities and possibilities. When I first moved here, there were so many stereotypes. It is up to the individual to break them. Once you did, you saw that the town was established, but moving forward.
Do you have a hero? I donât have one particular hero. But when people do things that move other people, that makes them heroes, to me. I think that itâs collective. Iâve had people who mother me, who are not my mother, and people who have helped me to be who I am and to be the artist I am today. Everyone has been my hero.
Do you have a personal philosophy? Believe in yourself. My greatest adversary has been myself. The only one that can stop you, is you. Take advantage of opportunities that come along, even as obscure as they may be.
What makes you happiest? Being a part of a community, and a part of my family. To be accepted for who you are, unconditionally, makes me absolutely the happiest.
