Porco’s Recognizes Black Belt Students

Porco’s Karate Academy martial art students Keith Baxter and Christopher Perry recently received new ranks in the black belt division. The Black Belt test includes an hour to complete a written exam including knowledge of techniques, philosophy, Korean terminology, and history of Tang Soo Do. The second portion is a two to three hour physical test which includes the presentation of hand/feet techniques, forms, weapons, free sparring, one-steps, and self defense.

Perry, 26, has been training with the academy for 19 years. He graduated from Newtown High School in 2002 and graduated from Western New England College in 2006, majoring in sports management. Perry is a third degree black belt.

Baxter is 21 and has been training with the academy for eight years. He graduated from Newtown High School in 2007 and is currently receiving his criminal justice degree at Naugatuck Community College. Baxter received his Black Belt in September 18 of 2010. He now holds a first degree ranking.
