Rotary Draws Members Who Want To Help Mankind

Charles “Chuck” Samson, the new operations/financial manager of The World Help Foundation in Newtown, is the newest member of the Rotary Club of Newtown.

Mr Samson has lived in Sandy Hook for 16 years with his wife Doris and three children, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Christopher. An active member of the United Methodist Church, he was looking for an organization that would enable him to help make his community and the world a better place.

The World Help Foundation provides safe drinking water for people throughout the world. For several years its water purification equipment has been assembled by volunteers, many of them Rotary members, at the former Newtown Manufacturing plant on South Main Street.

The Rotary Club worked with the foundation in its efforts to provide safe water at disaster sites and in third world countries where much of the water is not potable.

Rotary also works throughout the world to eradicate polio, a goal that may soon be achieved. The organization has shipped a 40-foot container of approximately 70,000 greatly needed school books to South Africa, and helped hundreds of people suffering from blindness caused by cataracts in India to get their sight back.

For the past few years, the club was a major supported of the Shelter of the Cross House in Danbury and most recently has been the prime force behind obtaining a much needed van for the organization. Besides also being a major contributor to the Family Counseling in Newtown, Rotary has assisted many other charitable organizations in Newtown.

Newtown Rotary’s help and assistance reaches anywhere in the world where humanitarian help is needed. Anyone who has a desire to make life better for mankind is invited to attend one of Rotary’s dinner meeting held every Monday evening at the Fireside Restaurant at 6 pm or call Duane Baumert at 426-8895.
