Wilson, NHS Gymnasts Win In Greenwich, Compete At Pomperaug

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team won its three-team meet with Oxford and host Greenwich on Monday night. The Nighthawks, led by Elisha Wilson, who captured first in the all-around with a cumulative score of 35.7, scored 132.7 points. Oxford had 128.9, and Greenwich registered a score of 120.2. The top four scores in each event for each team count toward team totals.

Wilson scored a 9 both on the vault and uneven bars, had an 8.2 on the balance beam, and a 9.5 on the floor exercise en route to the individual win.

Kaitlyn Tumney had an all-around score of 33.15 with an 8.1 on vault, a 7.85 on bars, 8.8 on the beam, and 8.4 on the floor. Leah Wallace compiled a 31.8 all-around score with an 8.2 on vault, 7.4 on bars, 7.7 on beam, and 8.5 on the floor. Meagan Foy earned an all-around score of 31.25 with an 8.3 on vault, a 6.9 on bars, 8.45 on beam, and 7.6 on floor. Anna Jannott finished with a 29.8 all-around score as she earned a 7.9 on the vault, 7 on bars, 7.5 on the beam, and a 7.4 on the floor. Jennifer Indelicato had a 29.6 all-around score. She scored a 7.7 on the vault, a 7.4 on bars, 6.6 on beam, and a 7.9 on the floor.

The Nighthawks competed in the Pomperaug Invitational in Southbury on Saturday, and placed eighth among 11 teams. Pomperaug won the meet with a team score of 136. The Nighthawks accumulated 126.8 points.

Wilson earned 16th place among 116 competitors with an all-around score of 33.2. She scored an 8.85 on the vault, a 7.1 on bars, an 8.25 on the balance beam, and a 9 on the floor. Wallace followed in 17th place with an all around score of 33.15. Wallace earned an 8.2 on the vault, an 8.3 on bars, and an 8.4 on both beam and floor. Foy was 34th with a score of 30.2 as she had a 7.6 on the vault, a 6.5 on bars, 8.25 on beam, and a 7.8 on the floor.

Jannott tied for 36th with an all-around tally of 29.2. Jannott had a 7.7 on vault, a 6 on bars, an 8.25 on beam, and a 7.25 in the floor exercise. Tumney came in 37th with an all-around total of 28.4. She earned an 8 on the vault, a 4.8 on bars, a 7.7 on the beam, and a 7.9 on the floor. Indelicato placed 41st with a cumulative score of 25.8 with a 7.2 on the vault, a 5.4 on bars, a 6.2 on the beam, and a 7 on the floor.

The Hawks were scheduled to compete in Weston on Thursday (after The Bee went to press).
