Dam Tour, Tree ID Hike
At Hop Brook Lake
MIDDLEBURY â As part of its weekend interpretive program schedule for summer 2000, Hope Brook Lake will host a pair of free programs the weekend of June 24-25.
On Saturday, June 24, a guided tour of the parkâs dam and other facilities will help participants better understand the purpose of the dam, how it works and why it was built. Visitors will be allowed to see the view from above the dam, and also see how the dam holds up in high waters.
On Sunday, June 25, a tree ID hike will be conducted. Participants will learn how to identify local types of trees and also discover interesting facts about the trees including how the trees are useful to surrounding wildlife, and why types of products have been and continue to be produced from the trees.
At the conclusion of the walk, children will be invited to participate in a âLeaf Hunt Relayâ competition. Prizes will be awarded.
Programs at Hop Brook Lake, located on Route 188, begin at 2 pm. Different programs are scheduled throughout the summer. For additional information on these and future programs, contact Diana Errico at 203/729-8840.
