Childrenâs Programs
Story Hour Registration: Register for the next session of story hours will run from October 22 to October 31. Weekly story times are offered for 2-year-olds, Monday through Thursday, 10 to 10:30 am, 3-5-year-olds, Tuesday through Thursday, 1 to 1:45, and Thursday, 11 to 11:45. Classes begin the week of November 5.
Children must be 2 or 3 years old by November 5 and a resident of Newtown to be eligible for the program. No phone registrations will be accepted. For more information call the childrenâs department, 426-3851.
Young Adult Book Discussion: Liz Arneth will meet with young adults in grades 5 to 8 on Thursday, October 18, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, to discuss the novel Dave at Night. Gail Carson Levine, the author of Ella Enchanted, has written a fictionalized account of her own fatherâs experiences growing up in a Hebrew Home for Boys. The main character in the book, Dave, is torn between the rich nightlife of Harlem in its heyday and the friends he has in the orphanage. Multiple copies of the book are available at the childrenâs desk.
Young Adult Drama Workshop: Young adults ages 11 to 13 are invited to sign up for a four-part drama workshop Thursday afternoons, from 4:15 to 5:30, beginning October 25 and continuing to November 15. The workshop is designed to introduce participants to basic acting techniques through the use of theatre games and scene work. Enrollment is limited to 12.
Adult Programs
Computer Classes: An intermediate computer class will be offered on Saturday, October 13, from 9 am to noon. Registration is required and a $10 fee is being collected. Topics to be covered include email, sending and receiving attachments, and other issues of concern to people who have already spent some time surfing the Internet.
Rare Book Dealers To Talk: Donât miss an afternoon with Leona Rostenberg and Madeleine Stern, two authors and rare book dealers. They will speak about their newest book, Bookends, a dual memoir and chronicle of the cultural changes of 20th Century American life. The talk will take place on Sunday, October 14, at 2 pm, in the meeting room. Refreshments will be served.
Yoga: Ricky Ayers is again offering a yoga class Thursday afternoons from 4:45 to 6:15. Call Mr. Ayers directly for more details at 757-4150.
Evening Book Group: The evening book group will be meeting on Thursday, October 18, at 7:30 pm, to discuss River of Fortune by Roger Masters. The book can be requested through interlibrary loan. Call the library for additional information.
Partners in Crime: A Mystery Book Discussion Series: This book discussion will explore the relationships of mystery solving couples. On October 16 the title will be Bitter Feast by S.J. Rozan, and on October 30 Evil Angels Among Them by Kate Charles. Discussions will take place at 7:30 pm. Some copies of the titles are available at the library. Sign up at the circulation desk or by calling the library.
