Lester Frederick Kuhn, 87, former Newtown resident, died February 28 in Twin Falls, Idaho, where he had moved recently to be near his son.
He was born December 20, 1917, in Scranton, Penn., the son of Walter and Alice Kuhn. He was raised and educated in Scranton, graduating high school in 1935. He married Minnie Teufel in 1942 in Scranton. Mr Kuhn worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Bridgeport for more than 20 years. After Singer relocated, he began working for the Dupont Company in 1964, retiring in 1982.
After the death of his wife in 1986, he later found companionship with Jean Senior, who died earlier this year.
He was a gifted athlete, and especially enjoyed playing baseball, and in later years, rooting for the Penn State Nittany Lions. In the 1950s he built his own home in Newtown, doing all of the work himself. He was a longtime member of the Newtown Congregational Church and loved singing in the choir.
His son, Richard Kuhn, and wife, Mary, of Twin Falls, Idaho; a brother, William Kuhn of Portland, Ore.; his sisters, Edna Blackledge of St Petersburg, Fla., and Marion Strauch of Scranton,; three nephews and four nieces, survive Mr Kuhn. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Minnie.
At Mr Kuhnâs request, no services were planned. Cremation took place in Twin Falls, Idaho.
