Fan Poll Gives Edge To Red Sox

HAMDEN (AP) — For the first time in five years, the Boston Red Sox have edged the New York Yankees in a poll of fan popularity in Connecticut.

The Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows that 41 percent back Boston while 40 percent support the New York Yankees.

The New York Mets have the undying love of 9 percent of the fans polled.

Fairfield County remains Yankee territory while Hartford County and eastern Connecticut are a big part of Red Sox Nation.

About 43 percent last year said they root for the Bronx Bombers, while citizens of Red Sox Nation comprised about 37 percent. Another 10 percent were New York Mets loyalists.
