An Evening With A Visual Arts Master

NEW MILFORD — Since last fall, Housatonic Art League and New Milford Commission on the Arts have been presenting programs on the third Thursday of each month in a series called “An Evening with the Masters.” This month’s event will feature the painter George B. Sutherland.

The program will be Tuesday, January 16, at New Milford High School’s cafeteria. Programs run from 7 to 8:30 pm, are followed by a reception with the guest artist, and are free of charge. New Milford High School is on Route 7.

Guest visual artists or artisans present a program highlighting his or her experience within a fine art or craft discipline. Mr Sutherland studied illustration and graphic design at Parsons School of Design and then fine arts at Art Students League in New York City. His work is both classical and impressionist in nature.

He specializes in plein aire paintings, celebrating the color, imagery and vivacity of the American and French countrysides. “Nature,” says Mr Sutherland, “is my source of knowledge and inspiration, and painting is my passion.”

Future programs will offer discussions in watercolor painting, oil painting, jewelry making, photography and digital art. Presentations are designed for all ages.
