‘Dona Nobis Pacem:’ A Concert For Veterans’ Day

DANBURY — Danbury Music Centre will present a “Concert for Veterans’ Day” on Sunday, November 11, at 4 pm. The concert will be at First Congregational Church, at the corner of Deer Hill Avenue and West Street.

Danbury Concert Chorus, under the direction of guest conductor Richard Price, will perform Dona Nobis Pacem by Ralph Vaughan Williams. With words by poet Walt Whitman, including his two famous poems “Beat, Beat Drums” and “Dirge for Two Veterans,” as well as adaptations from the Old and New Testaments interspersed with Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace), the healing work is timely for Veterans’ Day as well as the events which have taken place since September 11.

The chorus will be joined by the principal trumpeter of Philadelphia Orchestra, David Bilger; organist Stephen Rapp, director of music at St John’s Lutheran Church in Stamford; soprano Ellen Taylor Sisson; baritone Thomas Meglioranza; and percussionists Albert Montecalvo and Thomas Morris.

The performance is free. Donations at the door will be accepted. A reception will follow the performance. For additional information call 748-1716.
