Chillinâ At Treadwell: Local Park Is The Place To Be On A Hot Day
By Susan Coney
There is nothing quite like taking a cool dip in a refreshing pool on a hot summer day. Travel to Treadwell Park on a hot July afternoon and you are sure to encounter lots of Newtowners enjoying all that the park has to offer. From ball fields and tennis courts to a wonderful playground and an inviting pool, Treadwell provides the public with much to enjoy.
Kim and Tim Bottone with their young daughter Emily made their first trip to Treadwell Park this week. The Bottones recently relocated to Newtown from Westport. âWe just moved to the area a few months ago to get more of a country feel and more property,â they said. âIt was Emilyâs first time in a swimming pool. She was reluctant at first. We thought the pool was great; really nice. We are going to go buy a season pass right now,â the Bottones commented.
Longtime Newtown resident Donna Sullivan agreed. She and her family have been enjoying the pool for years. Donna brings her children, Julia, 4, and Declan, 7, on a regular basis to the pool where they gather with friends for a fun afternoon. âWe come everyday. We love it! We stay for the whole day from when they open until they kick us out or I have to go home to make dinner,â Donna chuckled.
A pickup game of kick ball was going on at the baseball diamond as well as a game at the basketball hoops. Lots of children enjoyed exploring and playing on the colorful playground equipment. Families picnicked outside the pool area and many lined up to purchase goodies from the always popular snack bar.
It is evident when entering the crowded parking lot that Treadwell Park provides a wonderful place to share quality time with family and friends.
