Volvo Hits Pole
Motorist Thomas Jackman, 17, of 4 Pine Street was driving a 1992 Volvo 240-GL sedan southward near 12 Scudder Road about 11:50 pm July 5, when he lost control of the auto on the wet pavement after negotiating a curve in the road, police said.
The Volvo veered onto the left road shoulder and then struck a utility pole, police said. Jackman was not injured, police said. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Sandy Hook DUI
Police report that at about 1:25 am on July 7, motorist Dwayne Connor, 46, of Southbury was stopped for an investigation near the intersection of Church Hill Road and Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center.
Following the investigation, police arrested Connor on charges of driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic control signal.
After posting $50 bail, police released Connor from custody for a July 24 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
Hawleyville Arrest
At about 6 pm July 8, police stopped motorist Kenneth J. Sprano, 55, of Waterbury near the intersection of Currituck Road and Obtuse Road to investigate.Â
Following the investigation, police arrested Sprano on charges of failure to obey a stop sign, driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance.
Police released Sprano from custody after he posted $100 bail. He is slated to appear in court on July 24.
Hartford Man
State police said that while on patrol near 22 Hawleyville Road about 6:30 pm July 7, they stopped a motorist because the vehicle that he was driving had a damaged windshield and no front marker plate.
After investigating, state police charged motorist Nathaniel McCoy, 46, of Hartford with eight violations including possession of drug paraphernalia, various vehicle registration violations, driving with a suspended license, failure to have automotive insurance, failure to have a front marker plate, and driving with a defective windshield.
McCoy was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 16 to answer those charges. State police turned over McCoy to Manchester police who wanted him on other charges.
Ford Pickup
While driving a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck on eastbound Interstate 84âs Exit 10 on-ramp on the evening of July 5, motorist Ryan Hooper, 17, of 12 Loveland Drive, swerved to avoid striking a deer, but in doing so he struck some metal guard cables alongside the ramp, state police said. Hooper was not injured. State police took no enforcement.
Motorcycle Crash
Motorcyclist Bradford A. White, Jr, 22, of Watertown, N.Y., was driving a Honda on Interstate 84âs Exit 11 off-ramp at about 6:50 pm July 4, when he lost control of the motorcycle and then fell off it, state police said.
White was not injured, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.
Warrant Arrest
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Michael Parker, 18, of East Haven turned himself over to them on the afternoon of July 9 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court and with disorderly conduct.
Police said they had charged Parker with disorderly conduct last December 19, but he failed to appear in court to answer the charge.
Police held Parker on $1,500 bail for a July 10 court appearance.
Oldsmobile Vs Deer
About 10:44 pm July 8, motorist Michael Pagett, 71, of Trumbull was driving a 1990 Oldsmobile sedan southward near 151 South Main Street, when a deer entered the road and collided with the auto, police said. Pagett was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
DUI Arrest
Police report they found motorist Justin Savaglio, 22, of Brookfield asleep in the driverâs seat of his vehicle in the commuter parking lot on Hawleyville Road, near Interstate 84, at about 3 am July 11.
Police said that they detected the odor of alcohol on Savaglioâs breath when he spoke, after which they charged him with driving under the influence.
After arrest processing, police released Savaglio on $100 bail for a July 25 court appearance.
Wills Road
At about 9:45 pm July 4, motorist Ryan Boucher, 17, of Bethel, who was driving a 1993 Saturn SL-2 sedan near the intersection of Orchard Hill Road and Wills Road, lost control of the vehicle during a heavy rainstorm and struck some curbing, police said. Police said they learned of the accident the following morning.
Boucher was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for making a restricted left turn.
Pedestrian Hit
About 11:30 pm July 3, motorist Stephen Furphy, 18, of 3 Black Walnut Drive, who was driving a 1989 Ford F-250 pickup truck, was attempting to back out of a driveway at 11 Crossbrook Road, as pedestrian Jay Pankowski, 18, of 18 Oak Ridge Road was attempting to guide the truck out of the driveway, police said.
The truck then struck Pankowski, who was standing near the truckâs right rear side, police said. Ambulance volunteers transported Pankowski to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police took no enforcement against Furphy, who was uninjured.
U-Turn Crash
Motorist Nicholas Mendillo, 24, of Stoughton, Mass., who was driving a 2006 Toyota sedan eastward on Church Hill Road about 7 pm July 4, attempted to make a U-turn, but collided with an eastbound 1998 Subaru station wagon driven by Tracy Watson, 33, of Southbury, police said.
There were no injuries. Mendillo received an infraction for making an improper turn.
South Main MVA
About 8:23 am July 9, motorist Sandra Russell, 45, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry northward on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by northbound motorist Jessica Wojiski, 19, of 23 Bear Hills Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Wojiski a written warning for following too closely.
Graffiti Bridge
Late on the night of July 11, police responded to Sandy Hook Center on a report that there were youths in the area handling cans of spray paint.
Police said they arrested a 17-year-old boy on a charge of third-degree criminal mischief after he admitted to them that he had sprayed graffiti on the Church Hill Road Bridge that crosses above Pootatuck River.
After arrest processing, police released the youth from custody on a written promise to appear July 20 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the identities on people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.
Wet Road
About 12:15 am July 12, motorist Jeremy Bliven, 44, of 22 Equestrian Ridge Road was driving a 2001 Ford Focus southward near 41 Key Rock Road, when he rounded a curve and spotted multiple deer on the road, police said.
Bliven braked, but the Ford skidded on the rain-slicked road and struck a tree, police said. Bliven was not injured. Police verbally warned him for traveling at a speed too fast for conditions.
Narrow Bridge
Police reported a two-vehicle accident on a narrow bridge on Meadow Brook Road.
Motorist Lewis Sessa, 59, of 24 Great Ring Road was driving a 2001 GMC 1500 pickup truck westward on Meadow Brook Road, as motorist Erika Loker, 26, of Redding was driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler eastward there, police said.
Both vehicles simultaneously attempted to cross the bridge, which is only wide enough for one vehicle to pass, police said. The two vehiclesâ left-side exterior mirrors then collided.
There were no injuries. It could not be determined which driver had the right-of-way and the case remains under investigation, police said.
