Find Humor, Celebrate Friendship On National Cancer Survivors Day

DANBURY — Dr Stuart Robertshaw, also known as “Dr Humor,” will be the featured guest speaker at the 15th Annual National Cancer Survivors Day program on Sunday, June 3.

The celebratory program will be held at the Ethan Allen Hotel, 21 Lake Avenue. Sponsored by the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital in partnership with Ann’s Place, The Home of I Can and the American Cancer Society, the program starts with check-in at 8:30 am, followed by a breakfast buffet at 9.

The feature guest speaker presentation follows the breakfast buffet.

Dr Robertshaw, professor emeritus of psychology and education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and an attorney, will share his personal journey which began in September 1987 when he started a review of the research on the benefits of humor.

On June 28, 1990, he announced the formation of the National Association for the Humor Impaired.

Dr Robertshaw currently serves as president and chief executive officer of the Association, and he will share lessons learned about the psychological and physiological benefits of humor and laughter when dealing with cancer.

Seating for the free event is limited to a cancer survivor and one guest. A “cancer survivor” is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer — from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.

Registration must be made by May 28. To register, call Ann’s Place, The Home of I Can at 203-790-6568.
