NYC Relief Benefit
Like everyone locally and across the nation, Tim and Sue Gagne of Pocono Road in Newtown were shaken by the tragic events of September 11. And when donating blood and money did not feel like it was enough, the couple, along with their daughters Madeleine, 8, and Lauren, 6, began organizing a fundraiser to benefit the American Red Cross.
The fundraiser, which will feature dance and karate demonstrations, as well as free self-defense classes and patriotic items and food for sale, is scheduled for this Sunday, October 14, from noon to 5 pm at Dance Etc., 117 Mount Pleasant Road in Newtown.
The event will begin with a special demonstration by Dance Etc. students at noon, followed by a karate demonstration by the Karate America (Bethel) Demo Team, and free self-defense classes by Karate Americaâs Sensei George Chaber at 1:45 pm and 2:30 pm.
Local entertainers are expected to donate their time and there may be a visit by the Newtown police and fire companies. In addition, through a donation by Dunkin Donuts on Queen Street, there will be donuts and coffee for sale. The Gagnes also made American flag pins and red, white, and blue ribbons to help raise money. All funds collected will be donated directly to the American Red Cross.
