High Tea At The Homesteads

Of the beverage market, tea now accounts for about $7.5 to 8 billion annually. The public is invited to The Homesteads at Newtown to learn more about tea on Tuesday, March 2, at 2:30 pm.

Jim Harron, Sr, the owner of the Brookfield-based Simpson & Vail Tea Company, will present the program. Assam tea (a black tea) and Rooibos, an herbal tisane made from the African Rooibos bush, will be served and discussed. In opening his presentation Mr Herron will also provide attendees with a tea taster’s glossary.

“Very few people have tasted a true Assam tea,” says Mr Harron, “As for the Rooibos, it is the healthiest beverage you can drink, which is why in South Africa, you’ll find Rooibos bars and not coffee shops.”

Mr Harron will also present a slide show tour of the Assam Tea Gardens share its fantastic history, and a video presentation on Rooibos, how it is made and its history. He will also share literature illustrating the many health benefits gained from drinking the herbal brew.

The Homesteads at Newtown will provide tasty tea pastries and sandwiches to complement the teas. Admission is free but space is limited so reservations are required.

The Homesteads is a senior living, rental community at 166 Mount Pleasant Road (Route 6) in Newtown. The community regularly offers free public programs. Call 426-8118 for details or a reservation.
