Pumpkin Walk A Success

To the Editor:

The First Annual Pumpkin Walk was a success last Saturday! We had over 80 walkers trek on a two-mile route through the center of town to raise money for the Newtown Youth Services NYCAAP program. The money will be used for peer education of substance abuse issues in the schools.

I want to especially thank Lisa LaForte, coordinator of NYCAAP, and all the NYCAAP officers and volunteers for unselfishly working as a team to make the walk a success. Behind the scenes a special thanks to: Wendy Mayerson, Donna McCarthy and the fair committee, Parks and Recreation Department, Police Department, High School Athletic Department, Karen Finlayson, and the more than generous food donations from Bagel Delight, Crystal Rock, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Stop & Shop.

My dream is for the Pumpkin Walk to be an annual event that provides support to a different health-related Newtown group every year for many years to come. There’s no doubt in my mind that Newtown has both the need for this type of support and the caring citizens to support its success.

Thank you Newtown, you’re awesome. See you next year.

Best of health,

Della M. Schmid, DC, Co-Chairperson
