Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is pleased to announce the next production of The Flagpole Radio Café. This time the show will be presented on a Friday night — October 24 — at 8 pm (instead of the usual 7 pm start time, and instead of the usual Saturday night presentation).

The café is presented in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown. Tickets are $10 ($5 for seniors and students) and reservations can be made by calling 364-0898.

“This will be an extraordinary program in celebration of our town’s two favorite holidays: Halloween and Election Day,” promises an enthusiastic Martin Blanco, the producer and director of Flagpole Radio Cafe. “When we say it’s an extravaganza, we mean of course, that there will be pumpkin cookies with sprinkles!”

Joining the Radio Café Orchestra will be guitarist Gary Sippin. Gary and his band Goldrush have recorded two CDs and are favorite regular performers at Connecticut music festivals.

Also returning will be Barbara Gaines and Jennifer Rogers, veteran performers of the Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre.

Music Director for the Flagpole Radio Café is Newtown resident Jim Allyn, whose music roams the landscape of American roots, rock, country, blues and Celtic music. Mr Allyn is also prominently featured on Goldrush’s 2008 album Steel and Stone by the Connecticut-based band Goldrush.

Subsequent presentations of Flagpole Radio Café will be Saturdays, December 20, February 7, March 7 and May 30, each starting at 7 pm. Artists wishing to participate in the Flagpole Radio Café should contact the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission at info@NewtownArtsCommission.org.
