NEW HAVEN, CONN. — The Yale Center for British Art will present a lecture, “An Empire Between: Britain and the Mediterranean, 1600–1830,” on Wednesday, February 27, at 5:30 pm, given by David Armitage, professor of history, Harvard University.

Armitage is the author of The Ideological Origins of the British Empire (2000), Greater Britain, 1516–1776: Essays in Atlantic History (2004), and The Declaration of Independence: A Global History (2007); editor of Theories of Empire, 1450–1800 (1998), Hugo Grotius’s The Free Sea (2004), and British Political Thought in History, Literature and Theory (2006); and co-editor of Milton and Republicanism (1995) and The British Atlantic World, 1500–1800 (2002). He is working on a study of the foundations of modern international thought and an edition of John Locke’s colonial writings.
