NEW HAVEN, CONN. â The Yale Center for British Art will present a lecture, âAn Empire Between: Britain and the Mediterranean, 1600â1830,â on Wednesday, February 27, at 5:30 pm, given by David Armitage, professor of history, Harvard University.
Armitage is the author of The Ideological Origins of the British Empire (2000), Greater Britain, 1516â1776: Essays in Atlantic History (2004), and The Declaration of Independence: A Global History (2007); editor of Theories of Empire, 1450â1800 (1998), Hugo Grotiusâs The Free Sea (2004), and British Political Thought in History, Literature and Theory (2006); and co-editor of Milton and Republicanism (1995) and The British Atlantic World, 1500â1800 (2002). He is working on a study of the foundations of modern international thought and an edition of John Lockeâs colonial writings.
