Heat At The Library

Is Uncool

To the Editor:

What’s up with the sauna temperatures at the C.H. Booth Library? I pass through Newtown from time to time, and in addition to a great lunch at the Newtown Inn, I have always enjoyed visiting the Booth’s antiques library.

But when I stopped by on the day after Memorial Day, I thought I was going to pass out from the heat. Windows were open, but it wasn’t doing much good. I thought maybe the idea was to help Al Gore stop global warming by refraining from using any AC, but the odd thing is that it was just about as hot in there when I last visited in February! And the inconvenient truth of the matter is that I noticed some of the windows were open back then, too! Sure seemed like a waste of energy to me. Plus I can’t believe all that heat is good for the books, let alone the patrons and the staff.

My theory is you can always put on a sweater if you’re cold, but you can’t strip down any further than naked if you’re hot. So my advice to management is: Just cool it, please!
