Orienteering Meet Nov 28 in Easton
Orienteering Meet Nov 28 in Easton
EASTON â Western Connecticut Orienteering Club will host an open meet on Sunday, November 28, at Trout Brook Valley.
Registration and starts will run from 10 am to noon. Cost is $6 per person. Instruction and compasses will also be available.
Entry to the forest area is from Bradley Road.
Boris Granovskiy and Sergei Zhyk will be setting up the event with Greg Balter setting the courses. Mr Granovskiy and Mr Zhyk are on the US Orienteering Team; funds from the Easton event will be donated to support team activities, including competing next summer in the World Orienteering Championships in Japan.
Participants will use an orienteering map and the compass to find their way across the terrain seeking orange and white flags at various land features. The features are marked on the map and act as checkpoints along the course.
Participants decide on the route to the feature and punch a score card to confirm finding the flag. In orienteering as a competition, the winner punches all the flags in the shortest time.
At Trout Brook Valley, all standard courses from beginner to expert will be available. Instruction and training will be available for beginners.
