Home Cooking Over Kitchen Hearth
At Matthew Curtiss House
The Newtown Historical Society will present a Hearth Cooking Demonstration at The Matthew Curtiss House at 44 Main Street (red saltbox across from the General Store) on Sunday, November 20, between 1 and 4 pm.
Come inside from the cold and warm yourself by the great stone kitchen fireplace of this antique 1750 home as you watch the costumed guides work around the hearth to cook a meal. Among the items on the menu will be a hearty vegetable stew and bread with freshly churned butter.
Tours of the Matthew Curtiss House will be offered while cooking is in progress, and visitors are welcome to sample the fare.
Newtown Historical Society guides recently attended an open hearth cooking class at the historic Stanley-Whitman House in Farmington for the purpose of firing up their own Colonial culinary skills for this demonstration.
