An Ignored Attempt At Reason

To the Editor:

A brave attempt was made by a lone school board member, Paul Mangiafico, who tried to apply reason to the formation of a school budget so the taxpayers may be happy. He was ignored.

The Board of Education has brought down classroom numbers to 20 or less with no noticeable change in student grades. The result was we have more classrooms, more teachers, more administrators, more union dues, more shrinks, and yearly higher budgets. What is still suspect is the 2¼ percent first year increase and now proposed seven percent-plus increase. Sometime ago Dr Reed proposed that we take in students at $8,500 from other towns.  Was this proposal ever implemented?
