The Government And A Gallon Of Gas

To the Editor:

[Regarding William A. Collins Commentary column “CT: Fastest Snail In The Environmental Race, Bee November 4, 2005.]

Did [Mr Collins] not forget to write that the government collects 46 cents per gallon of gas in combined federal, state, and local taxes, whereas oil company profits are approximately ten cents per gallon. Enough said.

Please research your comments. Even if you are writing you own opinion should you not use the facts? I have no SUV and no interest in the oil companies, but I do have a huge interest in the truth.
