Discovering Lost Communities Through Yizkor Books
SOUTHBURY â On Sunday, November 14, at 10 am, the public is invited to hear attorney Gary Broder of Waterbury speak on âDiscovering Lost Communities Through Yizkor Books.â
These free program is sponsored by the Holocaust Survivors and Second Generation Group of the Jewish Federation and will take place in the library at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.
European yizkor, or remembrance books, include a history of a town, photos and maps, a description of the Jewish institutions and organizations there, writings about prominent people, and the names of those who perished in the Holocaust.
Gary Broder is a Jewish historian, book dealer, and publisher. He will lead a discussion and analysis of various yizkor books and other Holocaust-related books with a view toward understanding and appreciating Jewish communities that were lost during the Holocaust.
