WILTON – The Wilton Y Wahoos recently hosted their annual YMCA Thanksgiving Invitational Swim Meet … a nationally-sanctioned swim meet with 13 YMCAs from across the Northeast.

Nearly 600 athletes participated in the three-day event. After the water settled, the Wahoos came away for a convincing team victory in both men’s and women’s titles and took most of the individual high point and distance high point trophies.

Newtown and Sandy Hook participants swimming for the Wilton Y Wahoos included:

Connor Deveney, 10, placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:18.64); second in the 50 butterfly (34.56) and 100 individual medley (1:17.40); and third in the 50 backstroke (34.25), 100 backstroke (1:12.56), 200 freestyle (2:28.68), 100 breaststroke (1:32.49), and 200 individual medley (2:46.88).

Brendan Deveney, 12, placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:06.19), 50 backstroke (30.48), 100 backstroke (1:05.92), 100 breaststroke (1:15.99) and 50 butterfly (29.45); and second in the 50 breaststroke (35.39), 100 individual medley (1:05.08), and 200 individual medley (2:20.76).

Dana Gnerre, 12, placed first in the 50 freestyle (24.94), 100 freestyle (55.65), and 100 breaststroke (1:13.64); second in the 200 freestyle (2:04.74), 50 butterfly (28.07); third in the 50 breast (34.69); fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:06.00); and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:25.61).

Jimmy Gaston, 13, placed second in the 1,650 freestyle (18:03.73); third in the 500 freestyle (5:15.81), 200 butterfly (2:18.68), and 400 individual medley (4:43.91); sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.86); seventh in the 200 backstroke (2:11.03); and ninth in the 100 butterfly (2:18.68).

Carol Ann Smith, 15, placed ninth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.45).

Sally Tabler, 15, placed 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.51).

Kevin Cahalane, 15, placed 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:05.55).

Chris Jacob, 16, placed 10th in the 200 breaststroke (2:46.83).
