Police Commission Candidate:

Why I Am Running

To the Editor

I am pleased to have been nominated for the position of police commissioner by the Independent Party of Newtown. I have lived in Newtown with my wife and two children for the past 31 years, and for 16 of those years I have worked for the Newtown School District as an elementary and middle school teacher. Over those years I have worked closely with our Newtown Police Resource Officers instructing our children in alcohol/drug abuse, Internet, and personal safety. Through these programs we have created awareness between our students and the police department. Our students have realized that our resources officers are not only the police, but allies to help them with their concerns and also providing them with a law related education.

I would like to continue creating this awareness between the Newtown community and the entire police department. This awareness will benefit the people of Newtown to see that our police department does not only “Protect and Serve,” but plays an intricate part within our community on a daily basis. I believe increased awareness will also help residents understand the decisions that are made with our police department pertaining to fiscal responsibility, traffic, and speeding concerns. I have seen many changes in our community in the past 31 years, and I believe it is time for our community to move forward once more. That is why I am asking you to vote for me and the rest of the IPN candidates. Let’s continue to let everyone know it is still nicer to be in Newtown than anywhere else.
