Nonnewaug High School Students Visit NMS
Nonnewaug High School Students Visit NMS
By Eliza Hallabeck
Once a Newtown Middle School student, Nonnewaug High School sophomore Molly Bryant returned to her middle school on Monday, April 4, to speak about the opportunities her high school offers its students.
âVery early on Molly knew she wanted a different experience for high school,â said NMS technology education teacher Don Ramsey to one of his classes on Monday.
Together with Nonnewaug juniors Natalie Savoy and Erin Biron, Molly described for the students what attending Nonnewaug means for students thinking of the school as an option.
Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury includes a regional agriculture educational center, and the three girls each shared their experiences in the agriculture program.
Mr Ramsey said students in eighth grade have to start thinking about what they would like to do for their careers.
âOur chapter allows the most number of students to attend it in the state,â said Molly.
Erin, Molly, and Natalie listed different careers students can look into while attending school at Nonnewaug.
âItâs not just farming,â said Erin. âItâs so much more.â
From horse management to landscaping, the NMS students learned about what courses Nonnewaug offers.
Since starting at the school Molly has placed first in a state competition on live-stock judging, according to Mr Ramsey.
âYou make Newtown Middle School so proud,â he said.
The three high school students also administered a career test to the middle school students before the period was over, discussed the attire students attending Nonnewaug are expected to wear, and shared the schoolâs yearbook from the 2010-11 academic year.
