Mindfulness is being aware of the present moment and can be used to achieve balance within the body, mind and spirit. It is also a core component of dialectical behavioral therapy.

“In today’s fast paced world many of us are out of balance and as a result more depleted than we need to be,” said Ms Sala, who serves as coordinator of pastoral care for the St Vincent’s Behavioral Health Services (also known as Hall-Brooke) in Westport and its ambulatory locations in Norwalk and Bridgeport.

In her talk on Mindfulness she will explore how to reconnect with the subconscious mind to improve mental and emotional health through self-reflection, meditation, and informal discussion.

The meeting will be held in the Eliot Room Library, First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, from 7:30 to 9 pm. It is free of charge and open to all.

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Its goals are to support those living with mental illness and their loved ones, to provide educational programs to the community that foster understanding and healthy living, and to provide advocacy.

Hall-Brooke is a wholly owned subsidiary of St. Vincent’s Health Services and an affiliate of Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons’ Department of Psychiatry.

Light refreshments will be served. For more information call 203-650-3463 or visit NAMI Fairfield’s website at www.namifairfield.org.
